the book blog
OK, I've decided on this.
I am going to use my old blog as the blog for logging of read books. It's quite amazing. For my life, from the time i knew what "reading" is, I've disliked reading up till this year.
What happened is this. The entire process started in sec 4 when my understanding towards literature improved by leaps and bounds, thanks to my teacher, Dr. Aaron Koh. He's amongst the few who led me to realize the beauty of english. That sparked an interest towards books. Though there was some interest, I took no action. Then last year, around december, I received an email from one of my subscribed feeds which contains a line saying "do you know how much knowledge and information is contained in one book?" It's just a short email by a fitness pro -.- on reading. That greatly spurred my interest. Who knew one phrase could do so much work.
Then this year, comes my first CT and chem teacher, the super smart Alistair (the dictionary said "alistair" is spelt wrongly and suggested "alligator". HAHA) Chew. I mean, no prize succeeding in guessing that he's a voracious reader. I attended some of his lectures before and loved the way he composes himself and conducts them. So this year, during classes, he teaches us some out of point stuff and other knowledge, which told me this: This can't be inert knowledge. It is evaluated knowledge gained from somewhere else, through extra means. By and by, I drew the connection to reading.
The first book I read voluntarily was "Powerful Sleep", a book teaching my about sleep cycles and stuff. The next is "A Good Year". You know, the movie with Russell Crowe in it? Yea, my cousins passed down a couple of books, so I grabbed one and ate it in 3 days. The first books I borrowed voluntarily was "The power of touch", along with 3 other books I borrowed at the same time "The wisdom of Mike Mentzer", "A guide to psychoanalysis" and some EQ book which name I do not remember.
And so, begins my journey of reading. But some things gotta be held off till after prelims. I'm currently reading "The diving bell and the butterfly". It's a recount, or autobiography by Jean-Dominique Bauby, an ELLE editor who, after suffering a stroke, was completely paralysed save his left eye. He communicated with it, and yes, he wrote the book with it through a tedious process of blinking. Amazing and awesome (pay attention to 'awe') book so far.
Well, who would have thought I would aim to read 1000 books within 20 years. That's about 4.2 books a month, or a book in five days. Read four, going to finish this fifth.
So i've decided on the blog to use, it will be my old blog: www.christianbboy.wordpress.com
